The Success of a Savory Place

One of the regular features of this blog will be "in their own words" stories from publishers on how their cookbook has affected their orgaization, community, or espirit de corps. If you have a story to tell I would love to read it and share with our followers.

This article was submitted by Katey Breen, Executive Director of Micah's Place, a shelter for battered women in Amelia Island, FL.

"As a domestic violence center, Micah’s Place is not always able to easily engage the community or our donors and volunteers. Our location and work is confidential and therefore supporters can’t see for themselves the work that we do. Our new cookbook published by FRP gave us a presence in the community, offered an opportunity for volunteers to work on a successful project, spotlighted our beautiful Amelia Island and, most importantly, spread awareness of our mission. A cookbook is an effective tool for organizations which might not have a location accessible by the public or whose work isn’t easily defined by the general community. Although these aspects are invaluable, one important and original goal has been met, that of generating much needed revenue for the victims of domestic violence and their children. Purchasers can feel good about their contribution to a worthy cause."
